In January 2014 the CFA Institute completed its move into a new 143,000 sq. ft. headquarters facility in the old Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. Gropen collaborated with Baskervill Architects, internal and external design teams to execute a complete environmental graphics, branding, and signage package.
The client’s goal was to bring the CFA brand to life throughout the new space. Architectural graphic elements included a dimensional LED Ticker Wall with scrolling real-time news and information and a multi-lingual lobby display. Other dimensional accents of aluminum and acrylic were used for the reception area logo, CFA mission statement, and a colorful map of the world. The brand was introduced elsewhere with listings of active CFA chapter locations and past Presidents. Gropen produced both interior and exterior interpretive plaques to highlight the facility’s sustainability credentials.
An art display wall was created for the café using aluminum rails with changeable printed panels. Traditional signage included a needs assessment, full message schedule development, and design of ADA/ Wayfinding signage. Several internally lit monument signs brought the branding out into the street.
